I have always loved the song Jesus Loves Me. I would sing it to my kids every night after we read a book. I wanted them to know from an early age the Jesus loved them. I wanted them to know that even when they are scared at night in the dark, when they felt weak, Jesus is strong. I also wanted them to understand that the love we know in Jesus comes from the Bible not from their father and mother’s head. All of this theology is encompassed in this song:
Jesus loves me this I know.
For the Bible tells me so.
Little ones to Him belong.
They are weak but He is strong.
Yes, Jesus loves me,
Yes, Jesus loves me.
Yes, Jesus loves me.
The Bible tells me so.
I was singing this one night and felt something was missing – our response to this love.
We had taught our children that Jesus died on the cross for their sins; and how they needed to ask Him into their hearts. This song tells them about His love and where we learn of His love, but they needed to know more. So one night I came up with this response:
I love Jesus, He’s my Lord.
On the cross, His blood He pour.
Rose again to set me free.
Lives in heaven to interceed.
Yes, I love Jesus.
Yes, I love Jesus.
Yes, I love Jesus.
Because He died for me.
They loved it and learned more about what Jesus did for them on the cross. I hope you like it, I felt that I need to share this tonight.
So feel free to use this as you put you kids to bed at night and teach them about Christ.
